Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) is a style sheet language used to describe the presentation semantics (the look and formatting) of a document written in a markup language. Its most common application is to style web pages written in HTML and XHTML, but the language can also be applied to any kind of XML document, including SVG and XUL. CSS is designed primarily to enable the separation of document content (written in HTML or a similar markup language) from document presentation, including elements such as the layout, colors, and fonts. This separation can improve content accessibility, provide more flexibility and control in the specification of presentation characteristics, enable multiple pages to share formatting, and reduce complexity and repetition in the structural content (such as by allowing for tableless web design). CSS can also allow the same markup page to be presented in different styles for different rendering methods, such as on-screen, in print, by voice (when read out by a speech-based browser or screen reader) and on Braille-based, tactile devices. While the author of a document typically links that document to a CSS style sheet, readers can use a different style sheet, perhaps one on their own computer, to override the one the author has specified. CSS specifies a priority scheme to determine which style rules apply if more than one rule matches against a particular element. In this so-called cascade, priorities or weights are calculated and assigned to rules, so that the results are predictable. The CSS specifications are maintained by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). Internet media type (MIME type) From Wikipedia under the

From Google Video Search: "css" How do I make my CSS drop down menu appear before the rest of my page when it is loaded ? Q. When I load my site up, the drop down CSS menu I created for the navigation loads behind the header and the rest of the page. So it gets cut off when you view the page. Anyone know what I can do to get the drop down menu to appear ahead of everything else ? Asked by Sodredge - Sat Nov 21 12:06:58 2009 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. Make sure your embed and object codes include the wmode parameter set to transparent: param name= movie value= xxx.swf /> param name= quality value= high /> param name= wmode value= transparent /> embed src= xxx.swf width= xxx height= xxx hspace= 0 vspace= 0 quality= high wmode= transparent pluginspage= type= application/x-shockwave-f lash If above didn t work, try this; Do not use Absolute Positioning to place your flash element. Absolute positioning will override the CSS, even when it is set to transparent. Q. I want to center my website and behind the centered div tag i want to have a plain gray background but i can't seem to get any codes to work. Please give me the exact codes and where to put them...i dont know if i should put it in a css or right in the page code. Asked by Henry J - Tue Aug 21 18:09:37 2007 - - 1 Answers - 1 Comments A. I am not sure of what you are trying to do here. However if you do a View Source at my site below, I believe that you will see how I did mine. If it is in the CSS part, which I do not use, just put the background first before anything else, especially before the center code. My site below under Internet Talk also offers many hints for using HTML as well as let you test drive them before committing them to your page.
